GQPA: By the Players, for the Players

For those of you who don't know me, I am Kunal Naik, a junior at Alpharetta high School and co-founder of the Georgia Quizbowl Players Association. As William said earlier, the main goal of GQPA is to promote the spread of quizbowl throughout Georgia. I am someone who has been interested in quizbowl since the 6th grade, and I understand its allure: from learning new awesome things to competing, quizbowl is fun.

We want to create a community in which the players are united in improving quizbowl in the state of Georgia. Our long term goal is to create such a community through hosting tournaments and providing resources for players to easily access and improve.

Again, GQPA is made by your input and your suggestions therefore I urge you to contact us with your comments and concerns, either by commenting here or by emailing us at georgiaquizbowl@gmail.com

Welcome to the GQPA!

The GQPA is an organization founded, first and foremost, to promote quizbowl in Georgia. I've been playing quizbowl since I was a sixth grader at Webb Bridge Middle School, and I hope to promote the growth of this activity throughout the state so that other students can have the same opportunity I've had to learn new things in an enjoyable way. GQPA is dedicated not only to spreading quizbowl to new areas, but to fostering a sense of community among the students who already participate. In my experience, the educational and competitive aspects of the game are greatly enhanced by the opportunity to meet other students who share your interests, whatever they may be--European history, Victorian literature, or comparative linguistics.

The goals of GQPA will become more defined as we hear from players across the state what they want out of the organization. One of the initial goals of GQPA is to organize and fund a trip to the HSAPQ NASAT for the Georgia All-Star Team. There is currently a GQPA tournament, to be run on HSAPQ Set 16, being planned for Saturday, May 14, at a to-be-determined location.

As we start up this organization, we really want to hear from you, the quizbowl players of Georgia. Please provide your input by commenting on this blog or emailing us at georgiaquizbowl@gmail.com.
